Uncluttering the mind

I haven't written anything here for over a month.  Part of this has to do with the fact that it's hard to write about how beautiful and wonderful the Yaeyama islands are when you know that there is a whole region of Japan that is devastated.  It seemed wrong to post photos of these islands.  The other reason I haven't been around much is more to blame on the all consuming phenomenon called Facebook.  I've just recently dropped out of the FB hemisphere and let me tell you that it's like having been at a raging party for months, years on end only to decide one day that you've had enough and you're going home to hang out by yourself in your room.  Well, once you've quit FB the party goes on without you and you get to sit in your room...by yourself.  Seriously.  On average, I received at least 40 email notifications per day in my inbox before I quit.  Now, I receive 1-5 per day (5 on a busy day).  There is something horrifying and anxiety provoking about feeling isolated online, especially since in real-time life, I do feel sometimes quite lonely.  Yet having this lack of constant "status updates" streaming by has already provided me with more vivid dreams and more of an impetus to write (which was one of the reasons why I quit).  I do feel like I'm truly out of the loop now.   I'm at home reading a book while everyone is at the non-stop house party.

So, here I am.  Back to this blog which I plan to update more often than I have in the past.  I'm aiming for once a week, but if I can, I'll try to write more than that.
